June 12, 2021—marked a pivotal moment in the lives of Crystal & Christina Mallett. This sister duo worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make their dream of opening a hair & nail salon come true.
The excitement grew with every person that crowded the entrance to STUDIO 23 located at 46 State St. in downtown Albany.
There were cellphone cameras ready to document every moment. The mayor of Albany was present and even booked a nail appointment. The Mallett sisters got choked up expressing their gratitude as they saw the eager faces right before the ribbon cutting.
Crystal & Christina had their pastor pray over their establishment. The ribbon was cut and the doors of Studio23 were opened.
This was more than a dream realized for Crystal and Christina—this was a win for their family and the community.
2020 was a tough year for many, but it was also a life check for a lot of entrepreneurs just like Crystal and Christina who decided to bet on themselves and see how they could become their own boss and thrive despite the pandemic and social unrest.
The grand opening of Studio23 was filled with hugs and happy tears. The vibe felt like a family cookout celebrating such an accomplishment in these trying times.

The girls got straight to work as soon as the doors opened. They were sporting all-white jumpsuits as they designed nails and washed and styled natural luscious hair.
While the girls tended to their first couple clients, mom and grandma catered to relatives and church family that came to support. Mom handed water bottles and delicious cupcakes as grandma helped sweep hair off the floor. This truly was a family affair.

I got grandma and mom to share how they felt about Crystal & Christina’s salon. Both women expressed how Crystal and Christina played beauty stylist all the time when they were little girls, and they oozed with pride as they watched Crystal and Christina hard at work in their very own salon.
The family had no doubt that Crystal and Christina were built for success.
